Twenty steals sent Dos Pueblos’ girls basketball team to 73-46 victory over Nipomo on Monday, led by Jessica Escalante and Chiara DiMarco with five apiece as the Chargers won their Tournament of Champions opener.
DiMarco also led five Chargers that scored in double figures with 17 points. Natalie Hilton tallied 11 and three others – Jasmine Mata, Stefanie Salinas and Escalante – posted 10. Talitha Draper added nine.
Dos Pueblos head coach Jelani Hicks liked his defense in the second half, when DP allowed only 14 points.
“We picked up the defensive intensity,” he said.
The Chargers improve their season record to 9-1 before Tuesday’s Green Division game with Peninsula. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. in Sovine Gym.
