Oscar Montes scored in the first minute and Carpinteria got another strong performance from its defense in blanking Pacifica 2-0 in a boys soccer match between CIF-ranked teams Thursday in Oxnard.
Carpinteria is ranked seventh in CIF Division 5 while Pacifica is eighth in Division 3.
Montes’ goal came after Johnny Requejo ripped a 30-yard shot off the cross bar. Ismael Soriano chased down the ball and sent back into the box for Montes who knocked it in.
Soriano picked up the second goal in the 28th minute off a Requejo assist. Requejo crossed the ball to the middle of the penalty area and Soriano hit it one-time past the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Eduard Chacon made two saves and earned the shutout. He got help from his back line, led by senior center back Manuel Salinas.
“We played well,” Carpinteria coach Danny Torres said. “We went on the road and got a win against a ranked team in Division 3. That’s not easy.”
