Bishop Diego raced out to a 29-9 halftime lead and cruised to a 53-34 win over Carpinteria in the fifth-place game at the Valley Christian Academy girls basketball tournament on Thursday.
“We played really good defense. I’m happy how we moved and held them to one shot,” said Bishop coach Jeff Burich.
Courtney Houston scored 14 points and Allison Breuer added 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
All-tournament pick Essense Thornhill scored six points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She averaged 13 points and eight rebounds in the tournament.
Bishop (8-5) and Carpinteria play each other again on Tuesday.
