Santa Ynez was a few points better than Bishop Diego on Monday night, as the Pirates moved past the Cardinals 73-62 in the final game of pool play in the Jim Bashore Classic at Carpinteria High.
The difference was Santa Ynez’s second quarter, as the Pirates exploded for 29 points and outscored the Cardinals by 15. Santa Ynez connected on 12 of its 14 field-goal attempts during that eight minutes.
Elias Muñoz led Bishop in the scoring column with 16 points and Noah Tack added 13. Paul Garcia, Johnny Diaz and Reece Moulton tallied eight points each.
Bishop Diego falls to 1-2 in the tournament and 4-5 overall. The Cardinals play at 3 p.m. in the eighth-place game.
