Dos Pueblos’ boys soccer team was stopped in Saturday’s semifinals of the Cats and Hounds Tournament, falling on penalty kicks to Cabrillo.
The Chargers had won three matches in the tournament leading up to the semifinals, including a 1-0 defeat of Palmdale on Saturday morning. The match with Cabrillo ended in a 0-0 draw before the Conqs won the shootout 2-0.
“I liked that we had two cleansheets on the day,” said Chargers head coach Tovi Eliasen. “It’s tough not to go home unhappy.”
Nick Neumann kicked in the Chargers’ goal in the morning game off a corner kick. His first shot was on goal but was blocked; the second, he hammered home off his own rebound in the 14th minute.
Jonathan Fisher also received praise from his coach for his play in the midfield.
“He was at the heart of all our positive attacks,” he said of Fisher.
Dos Pueblos is 5-0-1 after its first week of the regular season.
Dos Pueblos’ second week is a challenging one and almost as busy. The Chargers host Newbury Park on Wednesday before welcoming Bullard, Bellflower and Cabrillo/Long Beach to Goleta for the Soccertown Showcase on Friday and Saturday.
“The guys played consistently well. The hope is that we can keep building,” Eliasen said.
