Lyndsay Bergus tallied 17 points on Thursday afternoon, guiding SBCC to a 60-47 victory over Santa Ana in the consolation final of the Grossmont Holiday Tournament in El Cajon.
The 15th-ranked Vaqueros outrebounded the Dons 40-30. Santa Barbara won six of its last seven to finish the nonconference slate with a 13-5 record.
Bergus, a sophomore guard from Simi Valley, averaged 16 points in three games to earn all-tournament honors. She scored 11 in the first half on Thursday and SBCC forced 14 turnovers while building a 37-24 lead. The Vaqueros had 16 steals, led by Imelda Bealer (4) and Nanice Kollee (3).
Kollee, Janelle Wong and Brooke Amenta collected nine points apiece while Mercedes Gonzalez had seven points and seven rebounds off the bench. The 5-foot-6 Bealer had six rebounds, Wong and Amenta grabbed five and Jennifer Jimenez had five, including four offensive.
SBCC has won trophies in its last three tournaments, taking third at the 16-team Sequoias Invitational, first in the Moorpark Classic and the consolation crown at Grossmont.
“It was a good week, especially the way we bounced back after losing on Tuesday,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “Everyone’s playing well right now. We’re 13-5 going into conference and I’m really excited about our progress.”
The Vaqueros open WSC North play on Wednesday at Moorpark with tip time set for 7 p.m.
