Brooke Amenta scored 12 of her 20 points in the second half on Saturday as the SBCC women’s basketball team rolled past L.A. Valley 76-59 and into the championship game of the Moorpark Classic.
Janelle Wong added 16 points on 4-6 shooting from the 3-point line. Lyndsay Bergus had eight of her 10 points in the first half when the Vaqueros opened a 39-24 lead thanks to 43.8-percent shooting and just six turnovers.
The Vaqueros (10-4), ranked No. 11 in Southern Cal and 18th in the state, have won three straight and six of their last seven. They’ll meet WSC North rival Moorpark for the title on Sunday at 4 p.m.
“We came out strong,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “It was 14-9 for a while and the next thing I know, we’re up 25-11.”
Imelda Bealer had six points, six rebounds, eight assists and five of her team’s 19 steals. Jennifer Jimenez contributed eight points and four rebounds while Brooke Berry had six points, five rebounds and four steals.
SBCC shot 40 percent from downtown (8-20) and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. The Monarchs, who committed 31 turnovers, were 3-15 from long range and just 10-21 at the charity stripe.
