Carpinteria’s boys basketball team held Hueneme in check on Tuesday, posting a 42-32 victory in the Warriors’ season-opener.
Victor Garcia led Carpinteria with 15 points and 14 rebounds while connecting on 7-of-11 field goal attempts.
Oscar Aguilar was also a big part of the victory, according to Warriors coach Johnny Ward, although it wasn’t evident in the box score.
“He played tremendous defense for me,” Ward said, also crediting Trevor Madden for making plays on defense.
It was the defense that captured control of the game for Carpinteria, holding Hueneme scoreless in the second quarter.
The Warriors don’t play again until next Tuesday’s game with Cate.
