Jacalyn Schmidt scored two goals on Tuesday afternoon to propel No. 9 SBCC past Cuesta 2-1 in a women’s soccer match in San Luis Obispo.
The Vaqueros (15-2-2, 9-1-1) won their third straight game to remain in second place in the WSC North with one game remaining on Friday at home against first place Ventura (11-0).
After Cuesta scored the first goal in the 37th minute, the Vaqueros tied it in the 44th when Jessica Domenichelli got behind the defense and fed Schmidt for the goal.
In the 75th minute, Brittany Brennhofer took a through ball and passed it to Schmidt, who scored on a back-heel flick.
“The second half was one-way traffic,” said coach John Sisterson. “We had several good chances, including one that was headed away at the goal line.
“We’re ranked No. 7 in Southern Cal and we need to stay in the top eight to get a home game in the first round of the playoffs.”
