Cate’s Cormac O’Connor scored four touchdowns on Saturday, lifting the undefeated Rams into CIF’s Division I quarterfinals after a 54-6 drubbing of visiting Pacific Lutheran.
All four of O’Connor’s scores came in the first half, as the Rams built a 48-0 lead.
Pacific Lutheran managed to find the endzone with seven seconds left in the first half to avoid the mercy rule at halftime. But Cate went ahead and finished the job on its first drive of the second half as Blake Wands pushed in his second touchdown of the day with 10:50 on the clock.
Greg Mak and Mackie Greason both saw time under center. Mak connected for touchdown throws of 64 and 13 yards while Greason threw one to Wands.
Greason was also on the other end of Mak’s 64 yarder.
The Rams, 9-0 on the season, will be traveling to Victorville for their quarterfinal game against Excelsior next weekend.
Cate head coach Ben Soto expects to have starting middle linebacker Luke Shover, who has missed the past two contests, for the game.
“We’re close to being 100 percent,” Soto said. “It’s a good way to be going down the stretch.”
