Only six players could practice the day before but Cate’s girls tennis team pulled it together when it counted, defeating El Rancho 13-5 in the second round of CIF’s Division IV playiffs.
Cate won 8-of-9 sets in singles, led by Margeurite Mannix and Marina Narain’s six wins without a loss.
The Rams’ doubles team of Sarah Cohen and Annalies Northup also swept three sets.
Many of Cate’s players have been battling the flu this week but toughed it out on Saturday.
“Things were looking pretty bleak yesterday, when we only had six players healthy enough to practice, but the girls took care of business again today,” said Rams assistant Trevor Thorpe.
The fourth-seeded Rams will face either El Segundo or Bishop Montgomery in the quarterfinals.
