Cate’s CIF opener went according to plan on Thursday, as the fourth-seeded Rams were able to advance past Cabrillo 11-7 in the first round of CIF.
Two of Cate’s doubles teams swept three sets to keep the Rams in front. Lela Puckett and Nikita Kokal combined to take three sets for Cate as did Sarah Cohen and Annalies Northup.
“The match was everything a coach could hope for from my perspective,” said Cate assistant coach Trevor Thorpe. “We played a quality opponent that brought out some of the best tennis I’ve seen from our team this year.”
Margeurite Mannix and Marina Narain each claimed two sets in singles for the Rams.
Cate expects to play Patriot High School in the next round on Saturday. Patriot is the Sunkist League champion.
