Lions do all they can for playoff chances

Providence Hall closed out its regular season in top form on Wednesday, defeating Midland 14-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.

The Lions, in their first season playing a CIF schedule, won seven of their last nine games to finish the season with a 9-7 record and a chance for a playoff spot.

Providence Hall does not yet belong to an athletic league and must petition for a playoff spot. A winning record is the pre-requisite for being considered, making the Lions’ strong finish all the more important.

An Olivia Johnson kill ended the match on Wednesday, completing the victory after the Lions lost the first set. Johnson had a good night in general, filling the stat sheet with four kills, eight digs and four aces.

Lions coach Laura Trudelle credited Lacey Gonzalez with providing the spark for the turnaround. Gonzalez finished with 14 digs and five kills.

“She changed the dynamic of the game,” Trudelle said.

Cielo Prischak and freshman Keila Nazariegos also made solid contributions according to Trudelle.

“It’s been real fun to see this development happen,” Trudelle said.

The Lions will learn of their postseason fate on Sunday when CIF girls volleyball brackets are released.
