Three-time Channel League singles champion Lauren Stratman of Dos Pueblos defeated three opponents Friday to advance to the round of 16 of the CIF Individual Tennis Tournament.
Playing in regional competition at Cate School on Friday, Stratman dispatched Erin Acera of South Hills, 6-2, 6-1; Camille De Leon of Troy, 6-3, 6-1, and Christine Maddox of Santa Monica, 6-0, 6-2.
The round of 16 will be played on Dec. 2 at Seal Beach.
The San Marcos doubles team of Caitlin Mannix and Jordan Lund fell one match short of advancing to the round of 16.
The Royals lost to Natasha Smith and Alicia Ly of Long Beach Wilson, 6-2, 6-0, after winning three earlier matches.
Starting at 7 a.m., Mannix-Lund defeated Orcutt Academy’s Nicky Lay and Zoe Hull in a wild-card match to make the main draw.
They then took out Malieva Hedberg and Denise Schaefer of Oxnard, 6-1, 6-0, and Christine Noe and Whitney Bouqet of St. Joseph’s 6-3, 6-2.
“Jordan and Caitlin served well and were aggressive from the baseline, at the net and with their returns,” coach Jarrod Bradley said. “Their second match of the day versus Hedberg and Schaefer was near perfection, with perfectly placed passing shots and intimidating net play. I’m really proud of how hard they played today, especially considering how much more tennis they played than anyone else there.”
