SBCC may have the American Pacific Conference’s rushing leader back for Saturday’s football finale against West L.A. but the Vaqueros probably won’t have the services of Alonzo Winn.
Michael Douglas is listed as probable for the 7 p.m. APC game at La Playa Stadium. Douglas, who had four straight 100-yard games this year, sat out last week’s 27-21 win over Glendale with a concussion.
Winn, a freshman who ran for 103 yards in the first half at Glendale, is expected to miss the game with an ankle injury.
The Vaqueros (4-5, 3-2) are bidding for their first .500 season since the 2002 team went 6-4. The Wildcats (4-4, 2-2), led by quarterback Spencer Phillips (1,814 yards, 13 TDs), are coming off a bye week.
SBCC leads the series 16-8. West L.A. won a wild 42-40 shootout last year in Culver City.
Chad Toocheck, the No. 2 receiver in Southern Cal with 52 catches for 724 yards and eight touchdowns, had eight receptions for 157 yards and two TDs at Glendale before separating his shoulder in the third quarter.
Toocheck, the APC Offensive Player of the Week, practiced on Thursday and coach Craig Moropoulos said his status is questionable.
“He’ll try to play but we’ll have to see how effective he is,” said Moropoulos.
Santa Barbara QB John Uribe is No. 1 in Southern Cal with 20 TD passes and No. 3 in yardage (2,290) while linebacker Manny Hernandez leads the state with 119 tackles. Sam Shipley is fifth in tackles with 93.
The Vaqueros led 27-7 at half last week, thanks to three TD passes from Uribe. Matthew Arve preserved the win with his team-high fifth interception in the last minute.
