Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team made it through to CIF’s Division II quarterfinals on Saturday, recording its second straight non-stressful playoff win in a 13-5 decision at Aliso Niguel.
The second-seeded Dons clinched the match before the third round by taking a 10-2 lead after two rounds. Santa Barbara’s doubles teams were a force, claiming all nine sets played.
“We had some talented players there,” said Dons head coach Steve Geremia of his doubles lineup, which included Channel League doubles champions Ariana and Talia Hudson. “We’re pleased with the way they played. They played well and we expect them to play well.”
The Hudsons won their three sets by a combined score of 18-2 while Taryn Mjelde and Stephanie Thornton only lost four games in three sets.
Aliso Niguel’s Paula Chou held her ground in singles, sweeping three sets for the Wolverines.
Santa Barbara improves its overall record to 13-3 in non-tournament matches. The Dons will now host El Dorado, an 11-7 winner over Santa Monica, in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
