Jessica Domenichelli started her SBCC playoff career the same way she started this season with a four-goal eruption in Saturday‘s 7-1 over Moorpark in the opening round of the Southern Cal Women‘s Soccer Regional.
Domenichelli, a freshman forward, racked up her four scores in the first 17 minutes at La Playa Stadium, beating the keeper in the third, 12th, 15th and 17th minutes. After Moorpark (12-6-2) tied the score at 1-1 in the eighth minute, Domenichelli took a pass from Mandy Tafoya and scored on a breakaway to put the Vaqueros ahead for good.
Anne Dunne blasted a 35-yard shot into the upper right corner for a 3-1 lead in the 14th minute and then Domenichelli found the net twice in the next three minutes for a 5-1 cushion after just 17 minutes.
It was the fourth hat trick of the year for Domenichelli, who raised her school-record goal total to 25.
“The last two times we played Moorpark, we beat them 2-0 and tied 1-1, so it was surprising to get seven today,” said Domenichelli. “We were really motivated in practice this week and we played hard. We were ready to go.
“I found the weaknesses in their defense and took advantage of it.”
SBCC (16-3-2) improved to 8-1-1 at home this season. The Vaqueros have to face a second straight WSC rival in the playoffs on Tuesday, traveling south to take on WSC champion and No. 2 seed Ventura (16-3-2).
The Pirates beat the Vaqueros twice this year by 2-0 scores.
Jenna Rubin made it 6-1 in the 61st minute on a shot from 30 yards out and Brittany Brennhofer completed the scoring in the 65th minute by heading in a long free kick from Margot Valenzuela. Valenzuela also assisted on Domenichelli’s first goal.
