Cate’s 8-man football team came up short for the first time on Saturday, dropping out of CIF after a 34-15 loss at Excelsior in the quarterfinals.
“No excuses. They beat us. They were a good team and came right after us,” said Rams head coach Ben Soto.
“I was proud of my kids. Condor League champs and 9-1. It was not the way we wanted it to end but I’m proud of my players and coaches for the effort they gave this year.”
Cate was the No. 2 seed in 8-man Division I.
