An up-and-down season for the Bishop Diego girls volleyball team ended on a very high note on Thursday, as the Cardinals defeated visiting St. Bonaventure 25-19, 25-21, 11-25, 25-22. Coach Erika Lilley said she believes it was Bishp’s first-ever win over the Seraphs.
“It was Senior Night, and there were a lot of loud fans. It was just a great way to end the season,” said Lilley.
Diana Sleep led the way with 14 kills while Lauren Underwood notched eight. Libero Maddie Ballard also had a big night, shoveling up 22 digs. Lilley also noted the play of Ariana Hugo and Paige Sleep in the middle as well as Greta Rennacker, who had three aces in the final five points of the match.
The Cardinals (4-7) return all of their starters next season.
“We’re going to be a force to be reckoned with,” said Lilley.
