SBCC will take its potent offense to Santa Monica on Saturday for an American Pacific Conference football game. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
The Vaqueros (2-3, 1-0) won their conference opener last week in improbable style, rallying for a 26-21 victory over L.A. Southwest. After Manny Hernandez recovered a fumble, SBCC drove 88 yards in 19 seconds and Michael Douglas scored the winning TD on a 16-yard run with 1:01 to play.
Douglas (123 yards rushing, 2 TDs) and Hernandez (19 tackles, 7 solo) were the APC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
The Vaqueros have averaged 33.0 points in the last three weeks and their rushing attack is No. 1 in the conference at 156.8 yards per game.

Santa Barbara’s offense is ranked ninth in Southern Cal with 408 yards a game while Santa Monica’s defense is No. 10, allowing 306.8 yards. The Corsairs (2-2, 0-0) had a bye last week. They won their first two home games by a combined 27-13, then lost on the road to Santa Ana and San Bernardino Valley by a combined 93-34.
“They’re pretty good on defense, big and physical,” said SBCC coach Craig Moropoulos. “We have to do our best to take care of the ball, especially on special teams.”
The Vaqueros had six turnovers last week and are minus 8 for the year.
The game will pit a pair of former Santa Barbara High quarterbacks with sophomore John Uribe going for the Vaqueros and freshman R.J. Rosborough for the Corsairs.
Uribe is No. 3 in Southern Cal with 1,257 passing yards and a completion rate of nearly 63 percent. He’s thrown seven TDs with five interceptions, including two that were tipped last week. Rosborough is 36-of-66 for 394 yards with one TD and five picks.
SBCC’s Chris Kordakis is averaging 22.7 yards per catch and ranks No. 2 in Southern Cal in receiving yardage (106 per game).
Linebacker Sam Shipley leads the state in tackles with 71 and Hernandez is second at 59.
