Ventura upset No. 8 SBCC 2-0 in a first-place WSC women’s soccer showdown on Tuesday night at Ventura.
The Pirates, ranked 15th in the state, scored a goal in each half to improve to 9-2-2 and 6-0 in the WSC North. The Vaqueros (10-2-1, 4-1) suffered their second shutout of the season.
The game was delayed by lightning for a half-hour late in the first half.
“We didn’t play well,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson. “They scored their first goal on a defensive error. Too many of our people had off-nights and you can’t do that when you play at Ventura
“After the game was stopped by lightning, we came back and had a lot of opportunities but we couldn’t finish.”
The Vaqueros are playing three games in three days. They’ll travel to West L.A. for a makeup game Wednesday and play host to Hancock on Thursday at 7 p.m.
