The inaugural UCSB Classic concluded on Sunday with top-seeded Maria Zalameda of Pepperdine defeating teammate Ali Walters in the “A” flight singles championship 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Teammates Susan McRann and Kim Stubbe of Arizona reached the finals of the “B” flight singles championship, but will play for the title back in Tucson.
The Gauchos bounced back from a disappointing showing Saturday to finish the tournament on a positive note. Jordan Dockendorf defeated Ashley Pane of Cal Poly in her final match of the tournament and Casey Reede showed great improvement with a straight-set win over Eastern Washington’s Chelsea Patton.
In C flight Alex McIntosh battled back to defeat Judy Liening of Eastern Washington 2-6, 7-6 (10-6).
The Gauchos resume play Oct. 21-24 at the ITA West Regional in San Diego
