FRESNO — Westmont learned early in the match why Fresno Pacific is undefeated and the No 1-ranked women’s volleyball team in the NAIA.
The defending NAIA champions stormed out to an 11-2 led in the first set and never looked back in sweeping the Warriors, 25-13, 25-15, 25-23, to improve to 18-0 and 10-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Westmont led only once in the match, 13-12 in the third set after a kill by Molly Armstrong.
The Warriors were held to a hitting percentage of .135 while Fresno Pacific hit .324. The Sunbirds hit a blazing .514 in the first set.
Fresno’s Martina Gregusova, a 6-1 outside hitter, led all hitters with 15 kills and hit .430. Keke Wang, a 6-2 middle, and 6-2 outside hitter Michelle Johnson each had seven kills.
Westmont (9-10, 3-7 GSAC) was led by Ciara Turner with six kills.
