Sara Tomas and Anne Dunne recorded hat tricks on Thursday night and SBCC shattered its scoring record in a 19-0 women’s soccer victory over Hancock at La Playa Stadium.
The previous record of 13 goals was set Sept. 28 at Hancock.
The Vaqueros, ranked 10th in the state, improved to 12-2-1 and 6-1 in the WSC North. Hancock (0-10, 0-7) only had 11 players available.
Jacalyn Schmidt opened the scoring with a rebound shot in the 12th minute and six minutes later, Tomas made a strong run up the right side, then cut back and beat the keeper to make it 2-0.
Tomas, a freshman defender, scored her third goal in the 32nd minute on an assist from Jessica Domenichelli, stretching the lead to 7-0. Santa Barbara, which is 6-0-1 at home this season, led 11-0 at halftime.
“We didn’t want to have any bad, unexpected plays so we just kept our composure,” said Tomas, whose older sister, Hillary, plays on the Vaquero volleyball team. “Playing three games in three days was a little tiring but it was nice knowing we had a little easier game.”
Jenna Rubin had two goals and three assists while Schmidt, Nicole Payne-Duhe and Emily Myrick contributed two goals apiece.
Domenichelli scored her 16th goal of the year in the 36th minute and also had three assists. Dunne found the net twice in a three-minute span early in the second half and got her hat trick in the 90th minute on an assist from Brittany Brennhofer.
All 17 Vaqueros saw action in their third game in three days.
SBCC travels to Moorpark on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game.
