Jenna Rubin snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 88th minute on Friday night at La Playa Stadium and Brittany Brennhofer scored a minute later to give SBCC a 3-1 women’s soccer win over Cuesta. The victory kept the 10th-ranked Vaqueros perfect in WSC play.
SBCC (10-1-1, 4-0), winners of eight of its last nine, trails conference leader Ventura (5-0) by three points. The Vaqueros travel to take on the Pirates on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Jacalyn Schmidt gave Santa Barbara a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. Cuesta tied it on a free kick in the 60th minute.
Rubin curled a ball into the lower left corner from 20 yards out with three minutes to play. One minute later, Brennhofer took a through ball from Jessica Domenichelli and smashed it into the goal on a first-time strike.
“We dominated play in the second half and deserved to win,” said coach John Sisterson.
The Vaqueros have outscored their opponents 43-10 and are No. 3 in the state in goals scored.
