Connor McManigal gave Santa Barbara a two-goal cushion with a pair of goals in the third period and Enzo Wolfe scored a clutch goal in the fourth period to help the Dons edge Ventura 10-9 in a tense Channel League water polo match.
McManigal scored to break a 5-5 deadlock. Wolfe’s goal came on a counterattack. He took a pass from Evan Robertson and found the back of the net to put the Dons ahead 10-8 with 3:30 to go.
Santa Barbara then played some good defense to thwart the Cougars. Ventura finally scored with eight seconds left in the game.
Wolfe led the Dons in scoring with three goals. Mark Davis, Nic Johnson and McManigal each had two. Robertson led the team in steals, assists and ejections drawn.
