Laguna Blanca’s 8-man football team took a 3-0 record down to Canyon Country on Saturday and endured a 56-0 mercy-rule drubbing at the hands of Santa Clarita Christian, the No. 3 team in the state according to CalPreps.com.
“They’re very good, and we turned the ball over four times so that was four touchdowns right there,” said coach Ray Robitaille.
Santa Clarita Christian features 38 players on its roster, which is bigger than many 11-man football programs.
The Owls (3-1) have two huge games ahead, as they host Thacher on Saturday and travel to play at rival Cate the week after that.
“They graduated nine seniors last year, but they reload and they have athletic kids,” said Robitaille of Thacher. “They’ll be beatable, but we just have to play really well. It’ll be interesting to see.”
