Laguna Blanca’s girls volleyball team came out on top in a battle of top-ranked teams on Friday night, coming from behind to bring down Viewpoint 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13.
The Owls are ranked No. 4 in CIF Division IV-AA while Viewpoint is a position higher at No. 3.
Laguna Blanca suffered its only loss of the regular season last year to Viewpoint, so the victory felt extra satisfying for the Owls.
“It was a super, super, intense match,” described Owls head coach Jim Alzina. “It was like a playoff match.”
“The homecourt was an advantage tonight. It definitely made a difference.”
Amanda Schulenberg posted her second straight career high in kills with 20. Amanda Harvey added 18, but it was Lillie Hodges’ digging that helped the Owls come from behind after dropping the first game.
Hodges recorded a team-high 29 digs in the match.
Krysta Brown tallied eight blocks at the net. Lauren Alef “set a really good match.”
The Owls return to Condor League play next Saturday.
