Moreno, Strenkowski run strong races for UCSB women

Seniors Amanda Moreno and Bree Strenkowski finished in the top-28 to help the UCSB women’s cross country team to a 13th-place finish in the White Division at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday.

Moreno stood out. She ran the 6,000 meter course n a time of 20:34.7, just 27 seconds behind the race winner, Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook, who clocked at 20:08.1. Strenkowski almost ran a sub-21 minute race. She timed-out at 21:00.06 and finished 28th.

The rest of the Santa Barbara contingent struggled. Crystal Reed finished 85th in a time of 21:44.4, while Andrea Jacobs was 103rd in a time of 21:51.9. Jessica Chadwick ran a 22:49.3 for a 208th-place finish, and Ashley Beechan was 259th.

As a team, UCSB tied for 13th-place. The Gauchos actually finished tied with Rice for 13th-place. Both teams finished 29 points behind Montana for 12th-place, and 49 back of Arizona State for 11th.
