FULLERTON – Seniors Kailyn Kugler and Jacqui Simon each scored goals to lead the UCSB (8-8-2 overall, 3-4-0 in the Big West) women’s soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win on the road against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday evening.
Simon scored the first goal of the game against the Titans (6-11-0 overall, 3-3-0 overall). The senior from Torrance received a pass from Kugler and blasted a shot from the top of the box. Simon’s shot hit home and gave the Gauchos a 1-0 lead at the 32:42 mark. It was Simon’s second goal of the season and the ninth of her career.
The score remained 1-0 for the next 48 minutes. At 81:04, senior Kylie McDonald booted a pass across the box. Kugler, who ranks seventh all-time in goals at UCSB, collected the ball and shot it just inside the left post, giving the Gauchos their ultimate 2-0 advantage.
Gaucho goalkeeper Makenna Henry, a freshman, recorded her fifth complete game shutout of the season. She needed just one save in the effort.
Santa Barbara, which is still in competition for a Big West Tournament berth, will complete the regular season on Friday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Cal Poly for a match-up against the Mustangs.
