Friday is a crazy day for Gaucho supporters

Friday is usually a festive time around UCSB, as many students take a break from studying and live la vida loca.

This Friday, they can live it up with Gaucho athletics at Harder Stadium and at the Thunderdome. The school’s athletic department is promoting the triple-header day of sports as “Unleash The Loco.” It starts at 5 p.m. with the women’s soccer team taking on UC Davis in a Big West matchup.

Next up is the men’s soccer team taking on No. 18-ranked Duke in a nationally televised intersectional match at 8 p.m.

The evening concludes with ‘10 O’Clock Thunder,’ the kickoff of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons at the Thunderdome. There will be contests where students can match their basketball skills against Big West Player of the Year Orlando Johnson and women’s All-Big West first-team player Emilie Johnson.

Other contests include trying to get a shot off against 7-foot-3 Greg Somogyi or 6-4 Mekia Valentine. Students also can win a chance at free tuition.

Current UCSB students with a valid UCSB email address can register to be part of “the best student group in the country” at unleashtheloco.com.

For the community, season tickets for UCSB basketball are on sale now and the deadline to renew has been extended to Oct. 15.

Men’s season tickets start for as low as $125 and women’s for as low as $100. A special “Double-up” combo plan is available for $200 and includes tickets for every men’s and women’s game.

Gold Zone tickets, which include special Founders Room at the Thunderdome events, require a $300 per seat donation to the Gaucho Fund in addition to the cost of the season ticket. Gold Zone season ticket holders also receive complimentary parking and entrance to the Gold Hospitality Room pregame and at halftime.
