Bishop Diego pulls out marathon match against Nordhoff

Bishop Diego fought back from a tough first-set loss and defeated Nordhoff in a four-set girls volleyball marathon on Thursday. The scores were 24-26, 29-27, 25-18, 25-22.

“It was hard psychologically to come back and win the next three games,” said Bishop coach Erika Lilley. “Our team is going through a lot of emotional maturity. It’s pretty exciting.”

In the second set, Bishop Diego fought off a set point at 24-23 and outlasted the Rangers.

The Cardinals carried the momentum from that marathon set and took control of the match.

“The third game was huge,” Lilley said. “Winning that game gave us a lot of confidence in game four. It was fun to coach tonight.”

Setter Nicole Tetherow had a big match for the Cardinals with 47 assists, five kills and five aces.

Diana Sleep paced the attack with 18 kills and changed things up with a variety of shots. Lauren Underwood added 12 kills, Makenna Hogue six putaways and Emily Lash came off the bench to provide two kills and two blocks. Paige Sleep had six blocks.

Bishop improves to 2-3 in the Tri-Valley League and 4-3 overall.
