Junior midfielder Danny Barrera was named the Big West Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week and was also picked as the UCSBgauchos.com Gaucho of the Week following his outstanding play in the Gauchos’ three games last week.
Barrera scored two of the Gauchos’ three game-winning goals last week, helping guide the program to first place in the Big West standings with its 4-1 conference mark.
Barrera’s first game-winner came in the 56th minute of UCSB’s 2-0 win over No. 11 Duke in a nationally televised contest. He then picked up the winner in the Gauchos’ 4-3 comeback win over UC Riverside, a 75th minute strike that completed the UCSB rally.
The midfielder played 265 of 270 possible minutes over the three matches and is now second on the team with 11 points (3 goals, 5 assists). His six points in conference games (1 goal, 4 assists) leads the team.
Barrera and the Gauchos will be in action again on Wednesday when they head to UC Davis for another Big West pairing. Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m.
Nice work. Good to see the Gauchos on top.
