Laguna Blanca’s girls volleyball team took its first loss of the season on Wednesday, succumbing to a solid Windward side 25-18, 25-17, 25-19.
“It really was a good wakeup call. It shows what we need to work on,” said Owls coach Jim Alzina. “We looked great at times, and other times, there’s a lot of room for improvement.”
The Owls started to think comeback in the third set, building an 18-12 lead. Then Windward reeled off eight straight points and 13 of the last 14 to capture the set and the match.
Amanda Harvey tallied a team-high 15 kills for Laguna, which falls to 2-1 on the season. Amanda Schulenberg added four kills.
Grace Woolf recorded three blocks at the net while Lillie Hodges collected five digs.
Laguna Blanca faces Carpinteria in a non-league match before its Condor League opener on Friday.
