Westmont Volleyball (6-3, 0-1) started the 2010 Golden State Athletic Conference season at Riverside on Tuesday night and nearly handed #3 California Baptist (13-0) its first loss of the season. Westmont won two of the first three sets, but the Lancers won the final two sets to claim a 3-2 victory (25-27, 25-20, 23-25, 25-14, 15-6).
Senior outside hitter Alison Sharp recorded 28 kills and produced 16 kills for the Warriors. Freshman opposite Kayta Goyich added 12 kills for the Warriors and had 11 digs. Freshman middle blockers Marie Trudelle and Ciara Turner each added nine kills.
Sophomore setter Candace Adema tallied 53 kills for the Warriors while Tessa Martin led the Warriors with 22 digs.
Westmont will travel to Azusa on Saturday to take on the #7 Cougars of Azusa Pacific (12-0).
