The road has not been kind to the UCSB women’s soccer team.
The Gauchos suffered their third straight loss away from home on Sunday, getting blanked by Marquette 1-0 at the Minnesota Gold Classic.
Golden Eagles’ forward Meagan Kelly deflected a shot by midfielder Rachel Brown and into the center of the goal in the 72nd minute to give Marquette (3-2-2) the only score of the game.
UCSB (3-3-0) was outshot for the match by a margin of 18-8, but both teams had six shots on goal.
Two of the Gauchos’ six shots on goal came in the final 15 minutes, one each by Alissa Sanchez in the 76th minute and another by Kailyn Kugler in the 86th minute. The shot by Kugler was saved by a defender as it headed into the goal.
For the second straight match, freshman goalkeeper Makenna Henry was solid. On the heels of a season-best six saves on Friday against Minnesota, Henry had five more in the narrow loss to Marquette.
UCSB will remain on the road for games on Sept. 10 at Loyola Marymount and Sept. 12 at UCLA.
