THE NEXT LEVEL: Knight finds back of the net for Louisville

Mark Knight, the record holder for goals at SBCC, scored his first of the season for the 20th-ranked Louisville men’s soccer team in a 2-1 victory over North Carolina State in the final round of the Duke Nike Classic.

Knight is a senior for the Cardinals. He was the team’s second leading goal scorer last season with seven.

In his two-year career at SBCC, Knight poured in 59 goals, 31 in his sophomore year.

COLLEGE BAPTISM: Kristen Witchey, a four-year varsity player and an All-CIF selection last season as a senior at Dos Pueblos, is a starting defender at Cal Baptist. She is coached by former Westmont All-American goalkeeper Kristen St. Clair.

WRIGHT STUFF: Former DP water polo star Sage Wright scored four goals over the weekend in a pair of lopsided wins for the third-ranked Stanford men’s water polo team. The Cardinal beat Redlands, 23-5, and Pomona Pitzer, 15-3. Wright is a senior driver.

In the Pomona Pitzer win, Stanford redshirt freshman goalie Hunter Ploch from Santa Barbara High saw action and stopped a shot.

Z-MAN SCORES: San Marcos grad Brett Zylstra scored a goal for Santa Clara’s water polo team in a 15-5 loss to top-ranked Cal.

Zylstra was an academic All-American last season.

HOT OFF THE GRIDIRON: In a matchup of former Bishop Diego football teammates, Cal Poly’s Scott Winnewisser started at right tackle and helped the Mustangs gain 298 yards on the ground in a 23-17 win over Humboldt State.

On the other side of the ball, Kevin Duley played linebacker for Humboldt State and had four solo tackles in the game in San Luis Obispo.

BOUNCING BACK: After being held to two kills against Liberty, Virginia’s Emily Rottman rebounded with a double-double in the final match at the Jefferson Cup tournament.

Rottman, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, had 10 kills and 17 digs in a five-set loss to George Washington. She also had a solo block and service ace. Despite the loss, the Cavaliers (5-1) won the tournament.
