Sergey Sushchikh of Dos Pueblos put forth another dominating performance to win his third cross country meet of the season, taking the Lagoon Meet at UCSB on Saturday.
Sushchikh, who ran away from the field at the Don Bosco Invitational and the first Channel League meet, finished just under 17 seconds ahead of DP teammate Bryan Fernandez. His winning time on the 3-mile course was 15:11.90.
Fernandez came in at 15:28.47 and Daniel Pena of Cabrillo placed third in 15:38.08.
Cabrillo, a perennial CIF power in cross country, placed runners in the fifth, sixth and eighth spots to claim the boys team championship with 39 points.
Dos Pueblos came in second with 43 points, beating league rival Ventura, which beat the Chargers on Wednesday in the Channel League meet. The Cougars scored 68 points, followed by Nordhoff with 120 and Fillmore with 130.
Ventura, led by individual champion Hannah Kirkegaard, took the girls team title.
Kirkegaard made it two wins in a row in Goleta this week. She ran 19:07.68 on Saturday, three days after taking first in the Channel League meet at Dos Pueblos
Kiana Hope of Fillmore was second in 19:43.70 and Devon Bedell of Cabrillo took third in 20:03.53.
Ventura runners placed five runners in the top 10 (5th, 6th, 7th and 9th) to score 28 points. Dos Pueblos was second with 86. Cabrillo took third with 104 points, Estancia fourth with 115 and Fillmore fifth with 124.
Erin Campbell was the Chargers’ top finisher in eighth place (20:25.31)
