Santa Barbara High had a tough time slowing down Rio Mesa’s offense on Friday, allowing a season-high in points in a 48-29 loss.
The Spartans grabbed a 28-7 lead at halftime behind quarterback Blair Benchwick and receiver Deadere Hutchins. Benchwick finished 9-of-16 for 160 yards with touchdown passes to Hutchins and Alford Marcus.
It was also a season high in points for the Dons offense, bettering the 17 points they scored in two of their first three games. Santa Barbara ran for 114 yards as a team and quarterback Shawn Ramos connected with receiver Tanner Wrout for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Rio Mesa improves to 2-1 while Santa Barbara drops to 1-3.
