Stacey Schimdt was named the Big West Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, after the UCSB junior middle blocker led the Gauchos to a pair of wins to open conference play.
Schmidt led the Gauchos in kills in both matches at Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine and averaged 3.89 kills per set while hitting an impressive .441. For the season, Schmidt ranks third in the Big West with a .378 hitting percentage.
On Friday at Cal State Northridge, Schmidt set a career-best with 23 kills – in 38 attempts – while hitting a robust .526. She equaled her season-high with four service aces and tallied 15 of her kills in the Gauchos’ three set victories.
On Saturday, Schmidt helped the Gauchos to their first sweep of UC Irvine since 2005 as she led the squad with 12 kills.
For the season, the Huntington Beach, Calif. native is averaging 3.10 kills per set to go with 0.75 blocks per set, both of which are second on the team.
UCSB returns home on Friday, Oct. 1 when the Gauchos host Long Beach State. That game will also feature the revealing of a new Legend of the ’Dome.
