SBCC surrendered an early goal for the second straight game on Friday night before rallying to earn a 1-1 women’s soccer tie with Santa Rosa in its first game on the new synthetic turf at La Playa Stadium.
Cara Cutin broke free and scored in the second minute for the Bear Cubs, who reached the 2008 state final. Jessica Domenichelli notched her fifth goal of the season in the 47th minute with her left foot after taking a pass from Elicity Fabing.
Hannah Zech made some impressive saves in the second half, turning away seven shots on goal for SBCC (2-0-1). .
“That early goal was the same thing as Thursday, we got caught square in the back,” said coach John Sisterson. “It was a battle throughout. I thought both teams competed very well.”
Santa Rosa goalie Julie Freeman was injured after a collision with SBCC’s Katherine Earle in the final minute of the first half. She reportedly hurt her clavicle and was taken away in an ambulance.
The Vaqueros will play their third game in three days on Saturday when they take on West Valley at 11:30 a.m. in the Ventura Invitational.
