UCSB finished in second place at the USF Powerade/Asics Challenge after splitting its final two matches of the tournament on Saturday.
The Gauchos defeated Washington State in four sets (25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21) in the morning before falling to tournament champion Tulsa (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) in the evening at USF’s War Memorial Gym.
Stacey Schmidt and Dana Vargas were named to the all-tournament team.
UCSB is now 3-3 overall this season.
Schmidt combined on Saturday for 19 kills while swinging at an impressive .425 clip in the two matches while Vargas handed out a combined 80 assists while piling up 20 digs. The duo was also named All-Tournament at last weekend’s Cal Molten Classic.
Against Washington State, Charlene DeHoog led the way with 17 kills and a team-best 15 digs, marking a season-high by any Gaucho. Schmidt had 12 kills and Mimi Cuttrell had 11, marking the first time this season that the Gauchos had three players post double-digit kills.
Vargas handed out 49 assists while also picking up 14 digs.
Facing Tulsa (4-2), the Gauchos struggled at the net, hitting just .154 with no players in double digits in kills. DeHoog had nine while Sherrard added eight.
