Santa Barbara’s depth shines in rout of Ventura

Lexi Aquilino roared back from a 5-2 deficit to win a singles set and Karina Thornton came back from 3-0 down to beat Ventura’s No. 1 player 6-3 to help the Santa Barbara High girls tennis team to a 16-2 victory Thursday on the road.

Santa Barbara finished the first round of Channel League play at 4-0 and improved to 7-3 overall.

“Karina came back and it away from their No. 1 player, and Lexi coming back was nice for her,” said Santa Barbara coach Steve Geremia.

Aquilino was playing the last set of the day, so the entire Dons team gathered around the court to cheer her on.
