Austin Rusack caught two touchdown passes, ran for a score and was force on defense to lead Laguna Blanca to a 33-6 romp over Santa Maria Valley Christian Academy in a non-league 8-man football game on Saturday in Hope Ranch.
“He’s just a workhorse,” coach Ray Robitaille said of the 5-4 Rusack. “He has the heart of a lion.”
Rusack caught touchdown passes of 16 and 35 yards from quarterback Troy Ritter. On the ground, he rushed for 136 yards, including 45-yard jaunt for a score.
Ritter had a productive day, completing 9 of 17 passes for 151 yards and three scores. Logan Elder caught a 7-yard TD strike from Ritter.
Joey Eckert had a 15-yard touchdown run.
Andrew McCaffrey, the backup noseguard, keyed a solid defensive effort with six solo tackles. Rusack at eight tackles at linebacker.
The Owls (2-0) play their homecoming game on Saturday against Dunn.
