San Marcos’ cross country teams traveled to River Park in Lompoc on Wednesday, where they competed against Lompoc, Arroyo Grande, Pioneer Valley, and St. Joseph.
“Our teams ran well with some great pack running. If we can continue to do that then we will do ok next week at the first league meet,” said Royals coach Lawrence Stehmeier.
Katelyn Rheinschild was the top Royals finisher, placing sixth in the girls race with a time of 19 minutes and 47 seconds. Annie Thwing also recorded a top-10 finish by placing eighth.
Philip David clocked in at 16:47 as the Royals’ top boys finisher. His eighth-place position was followed in quick procession by Helek Rutten in 10th, Isaac Wright in 11th and Jake Eliott in 12th.
The first Channel League meet is Wednesday at Dos Pueblos.
Pioneer Valley dominated the boys race as a team, tallying 45 more points than the second-place team. In the girls race, Lompoc edged Pioneer Valley 167-159. San Marcis was fourth in both.
