Scrappy play is the trademark of the San Marcos girls volleyball team, and the Royals were hustling all over the court Tuesday in a 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20 non-league win over visiting Hart.
The Royals got 15 digs from Katherine Crook and 11 from Emma Campbell in improving to 2-0 on the young season.
“Typically, we play some good defense,” coach Erica Downing said. “We’re a really scrappy team. We try to spread the ball around and try to be a smarter team. The girls work really hard.”
Downing called Crook the team’s workhorse. She passed well and led the team’s attack with 12 kills. Campbell also had a good night passing the ball.
The Royals are back in action Thursday at home against Westlake.
