Cate’s girls tennis team won 7-of-9 singles sets on Wednesday and needed every one of them in a 10-8 decision over Orcutt Academy.
Margueritte Mannix went 3-0 in the Rams’ top singles slot, cruising to victories of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0. Marina Narain and Mady Snider collected two more wins each in singles for Cate, which is ranked No. 1 in Division IV.
Sarah Cohen and senior partner Annaliese Schroeder roped in two-thirds of Cate’s wins in doubles.
“Everyone competed well today,” said Rams coach Barbara DeGroot. “I love the team energy this year and with the leadership of Annaliese Schroeder, Nikita Kokal, Annelies Northup and Sarah Cohen we’re looking forward to a fun and successful season.”
Cate stands at 2-0 and faces Dos Pueblos on Friday.
