SBCC sophomore Allyson Porter pounded 31 kills in a pair of upset wins at the Fullerton Quad women’s volleyball event on Saturday.
The Vaqueros, ranked 18th in the state, outlasted No. 14 Fullerton 3-2 (25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11) in the morning and then beat No. 13 Golden West 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 26-24) in the afternoon.
The Vaqueros have won four in a row to improve to 6-3.
Porter had 16 kills in the first match and Antonia Antes added 15. Jenn Waddill had 11 kills and hit .556 in the middle. Hillary Tomas collected 22 digs, Hanna Powers had 14 digs and setter Kelsey Soos delivered six aces.
In the win over Golden West, Porter collected 15 kills, Antes had 12 and Waddill eight. Tomas dug 23 balls, Powers had 20 and Soos produced 16 digs.
“It was a great performance, a complete team effort,” said coach Ed Gover. “Antonia stepped it up at the end of Game 4 (in the second match) with three amazing kills. Then we won it on an ace.”
SBCC travels to Canyons on Tuesday.
