Allyson Porter notched her third straight double-double on Saturday night and sophomore setter Kelsey Soos made the all-tournament team as SBCC took third place in the L.A. Pierce Tournament.
The 18th-ranked Vaqueros (9-4) downed Golden West 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19) behind a 17-kill, 18-dig performance by Porter. Antonia Antes had 14 kills and Jenn Waddill collected 13. Hillary Tomas had 18 digs and Danielle Stewart added 13.
“Kelsey did a great job of setting, serving and getting the ball to the right hitters,” said coach Ed Gover. “Our serving was the best I’ve seen in a long time.”
On Saturday morning, the Vaqueros had their six-match win streak halted by No. 5 Pasadena. The Lancers prevailed 3-2 (25-18, 16-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-4).
Porter had 12 kills and 13 digs, Antes had 11 kills and Waddill 10. Soos had a career-best 18 digs and 45 assists. Tomas, the libero, added 13 digs.
After playing their first 13 matches on the road, the Vaqueros will make their home debut on Tuesday against Bakersfield at 6 p.m.
