Laguna Blanca rebounded from its first loss of the season by sweeping Carpinteria, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15, in a non-league girls volleyball match Thursday at Carpinteria.
The Owls on Wednesday night were beaten by Windward.
They were sharp on Thursday against the winless Warriors.
“Laguna Blanca has got a tough team,” Carpinteria coach Katie Dolge said. “They’ve got a couple of of big hitters and they’ve always been good controlling the ball. They kill you with their steadiness.”
Amanda Schulenberg led the Owls (3-1) with 10 kills. Lily Hodges picked up eight digs and Amanda Harvey had a six-point service run in the second game.
Carpinteria was led by Meli Musson with nine kills, Maddie Brooks with five service acesand three blocks and libero Shelby Dunlap with 13 digs.
The Warriors wore black bands on their arms to express their mourning of the passing of school athletic director John Ward, who died Wednesday from colon cancer.
Dolge paid tribute to Ward in a speech before the match and a moment of silence was observed.
Dolge said that despite the team’s 0-6 start it is improving.
“All I ask is we get better with each time we play,” Dolge said about her team. “We’re in the Frontier League this year and we got a shot at it.”
